Problem There is a need for teacher preparation experiences that focus on trauma, the influence of trauma on children and teachers, and techniques to help children and teachers become successful. The problem is the absence of teacher preparation on how trauma impacts students, and trauma-sensitive instruction. Purpose The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore how teachers’ perspectives about teacher preparation experiences influenced their teaching strategies and the creation of supportive environments for preschool children who have experienced trauma. The purpose of this study is how to manage the social-emotional welfare of students, that forces teachers to learn how to appropriately and calmly respond to difficult student behaviors while on the job (Phifer & Hull, 2016). The knowledge possessed by teachers and the methods they use to respond to trauma have the potential to positively or negatively impact traumatized children (Cole, Eisner, Gregory, & Ristuccia,

My Reflection

Optimizing Brain Development: The importance of brain development in the early years I would share information on brain development with early childhood shareholders with urgency. I would challenge the shareholders not to let money get in their way of providing an understanding of the critical importance of brain development on healthy development and learning. Berkeley Media Studies Group 2004 explained “I need first to develop a strategy in order to achieve change. I must know what I want to have happened. For example, If I am going to sound the alarm about the lack of funds for childcare subsidies, I need to put forth a policy approach to address the problem” (Berkeley Media Studies Group 2004). A research-based advocacy message that I feel is essential for stakeholders How brain development affects everyone in the audience in some ways. According to Harvard University, “Healthy development in the early years (particularly birth to three) provides the building blocks for ed

Module 7 Assignment 2 Using Communications Skills to Enact Change

Module 7 Assignment 2 Using Communications Skills to Enact Change Larry D. Jackson Walden University Dynamics of Early Childhood Policies and Systems EDUC - 8854 - 1 Dr. Cassandra Bosier August 03, 2016 Knowing your audience is very important because it results in a two-way communication between the sender and receiver, which is very important to embody when leading policy changes. According to Mind Tools (n.d.) “Communication is only successful when both the sender and the receiver understand the same information as a result of the communication” ("Mind Tools," n.d., p. 1) . Importantly, if this flow of information is accurately receivable, then there is less chances of misunderstandings and confusion. Just being in Dynamics of Early Childhood Policies and Systems class give me the opportunity to use effective communication skills in the discussions and projects. Since enrolling in Walden, my writing reflects my communications to my colleagues, instructo
Social Media’s Influence on Policy Issues       The use of social media will help me to influence important policy decisions in reference to early family and childhood intervention. The two types of social media used to communicate early intervention will be You Tube and prime time television commercials. The reason for using You Tube is because if my policy issue receives a lot of reviews with a survey attached about how people feel about the issue then it will communicate and reach policy makers in local, state, and federal government. The benefit in using this social medium is that it will reach millions of people and policy makers are often looking for faster ways to get public opinion. The challenge will be making sure policy makers are aware of the results from the survey and the number of responses to the issues. For example, June (2011) stated “communication between the government and citizens has changed from indirect communication to direct contact. The speed in which

Course Goals

Course Goals      My current understanding of policies and systems is that there is a large spectrum of people involved in making decisions, implementing strategies, and providing research for early childhood. It does not consist only of children, families, teachers, staff, and administrators inside the school but external stakeholders as well. The continuum of early childhood includes systems and subsystems. These systems and subsystems play major roles in building frameworks for early education.            My first obtainable goal through this course that might assist me in becoming more effective in my professional role is to become an active advocate for children’s rights on local, state, and national issues and policies concerning young children and their families.      How will this goal assist me in becoming more effective in my professional role? When I accepted this position as an early childhood professional, I took an oath of ethical conduct in my daily practic
The Interview Process My interview process is going slow due to assessments in the school and other school related activities including parent-teacher conference this week. Some of the successes are working closely with this population and colleagues at a Titled 1 school. The questions in my interview touches on some of the types of experience that my interview contacts have had, or is having presently. The challenges seem to be not enough time during the day to sit down for in depth interviews. For example one of my interviews was on a school bus heading to the “pumpkin patch” for a field trip. My course project challenge is young children and families exposed to risk, stress, and trauma. My sub-topic is “toxic stress.” Module 6 was about the same challenge and it was wonderful! I am anxious to begin a literature review on the research. At this point the only thing I am unclear about is if there is a connection between the “complexity theory” and “complex trauma.” I hope to find
